Animal Welfare Society Receives $13,867
Surprise Check from Community Investment Ballot.
KENNEBUNK, Maine – Steve Morris, president of Morris Insurance,
and Helene Plourde, manager of Kennebunk Savings Bank’s Main
Street office made a special delivery to the Animal Welfare Society
with an unsolicited check for $13,867. This year, $126,000 will be
delivered to 148 charitable and non-profit organizations as part of
the bank’s Community Investment Ballot program.
“We
are very grateful for this gift and all of the support we have
received from Kennebunk Savings Bank and Morris Insurance through
the years,” notes Steven Jacobsen, executive director of the
Animal Welfare Society. “As we continue to provide care for the
thousands of animals in need of housing in York County, every
contribution makes a big difference.”
Each spring, Kennebunk Savings and Morris Insurance sends all their
customers a Community Investment Ballot listing nearly 100 area
non-profit and charitable organizations asking them to cast a vote
for their choice. The returned ballots are tabulated and Kennebunk
Savings Bank and the Kennebunk Savings Bank Foundation allocate a
substantial portion of their Community Investment Program dollars
based on the votes for each organization. The average grant amount
is $750 and, this year thirty-nine organizations will be receiving
unsolicited grants over $1,000.
The ballot is just one part of the Kennebunk Savings Bank
Foundation’s Community Investment Program. Beginning in 1994,
Kennebunk Savings Bank pledged to return 10% of its annual earnings
to non-profit and charitable groups throughout York County. By the
end of this year, the Community Investment Program will have
contributed a total of over $3.5 million to charitable and
non-profit organizations throughout York County through the annual
customer ballot, the Starfish volunteer awards, and community
grants.

Social Responsibility Eagle Feather Award, is York County’s
